The Fanlistings
» Janine is the mastermind behind the whole brilliant idea. It is true to its namesake.
A fanlisting is merely a listing of fans of a certain subject matter. She made a site that
gathered fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and it just snowballed from there. Now there are
fanlistings for almost anything you can think of. In this case, the listing is for fans of a
particular couple from a legend.
Lancelot & Guinevere
» Depending on which books you read or which movies you watch, there are many different versions to the tale of Lancelot and Guinivere. I'll just briefly summarize the main points that I've gathered from the studying I've done on the sjubject.
Guinevere and Lancelot both loved Arthur deeply, and respected him above any other person on earth. In some versions of the story, Lancelot is sent to fetch to Camelot, so they fall in love before she even meets her future husband. But in most versions of the story, Arthur and Guinevere are already settled at Camelot before Lancelot rides in from France to join the Knights of the Round Table.
When Guinevere is captured by Maleagant, Lancelot is the one to rescue her and thus becomes her Knight, the one whose duty it is to protect her at all times.
Arthur knew early on that his best friend and his wife were falling in love but he never wanted to believe it was possible they would betray him. So he turns a blind eye to their blossoming feelings for each other.
Soon Lancelot grows restless of the idle days spent at Camelot, with Guinevere constantly there to tempt him to betray his King and best friend. He rides off seeking adventure and to go on his famous "quests". On one such quest he is injured and is taken in by a girl named Elaine. She immediately falls in love with him, and tricks him into her bed by sending him a note that he mistakes as being from his love Guinevere. The dawn comes and Lancelot realizes his mistake, forsakes Elaine and rides back to Camelot and Guinevere.
However, the consequences of his actions was soon to follow as Elaine gives birth to his son, Galahad. Guinevere is furious that Lancelot slept with Elaine, but soon they learn to forgive each other and fall more in love than ever.
Their idyllic tryst continues for years until Arthur's evil son Mordred shows up at Camelot. Secretly hoping to destroy the kingdom, he feigns concern for Arthur and tries to convince him that Lancelot and Guinevere are seeing each other behind his back. Arthur reluctantly allows Mordred to set a trap for the lovers and unfortunately, they fall right into it. As Lancelot escapes, Guinever is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.
Arthur is devastated by their betrayal but secretly hopes Lancelot will rescue her, since Arthur as a King can't pardon her for his personal feelings. He is relieved to see that indeed Lancelot does come back for Guinevere, and successfully rescues her from the stake.
Lancelot and Guinevere ride off to Joyous Gard, his home away from Camelot. They live in peaceful contentment for a while, until Arthur demands that Guinevere be returned to him. After years of battles between Arthur's and Lancelot's men, Guinevere can't handle it anymore and checks herself into a nunnery, living there the rest of her days wracked with guilt over bringing Camelot to its knees.
While Lancelot and Arthur never fully recovered their friendship, they join in battle one last time against Mordred,
who ends up killing Arthur as Arthur kills him. Lancelot becomes a hermit and waits for the day when he
may be reuinited with his Guinevere- in the next life.
